I don't understand anime. I don't really want to.
Only anime I ever liked and watched when little was Robotech. I recently tried watching it again as an adult and was like, WTF this is terrible.

Most importantly - and this is a little hard to explain - there is something about Asian cultures and stories that I just don't understand. I very very seldom like Asian movies either. Their philosophies just puzzle me and a movie will hardly ever leave me satisfied with a story's ending. I don't know how else to explain it, I like alternative stuff but generally mainly Western.

So yeah, what I'm trying to say is that aside from the animation medium, which I don't enjoy, (I find a lot of the fast editing style really annoying) I just don't like anime stories in general. And no, don't tell me it's all different etc... I've tried being open-minded and have watched a couple of different things, but I'd just rather spend my time watching movies that I really do want to see instead (of which there is an endless list).

yeh, its a different style for sure. if you dont like asian movies at all you probably wont like anime.

When I think of Japanese movies I think of horror movies or some artsy super violent movies(oldboy) and I don't enjoy that shit. But I love the famous anime movies like Ninja Scroll, Princess Mononoke etc. and some series like Cowboy Bebop and Berserk(holy fuck this was epic).

well both of those are extremes. I think if you dont like Crouching Tiger & Hidden Dragon the chance of liking anime is pretty small. However I have yet to meet a human being who didnt completely love Bebop after watching it. Its like trying to hate David Attenborough. especially if you are into space stuff like eve.

Mononoke was great, but wasnt ninja scroll just sort of brainless action? havent seen it for like 15 years. Berserk was fantastic with all the sweet characters and court politics but I'm not sure its everyones cup of tea. I know a bunch of girls that like it though so its definitely gender proof despite the theme.

the biggest obstacle is getting over the fact that its cartoons and see it as any other medium or it wont really be possible to enjoy anything non-comedy. This can take a bit.

I don't know why litheye needs anime specifically. Especially as Morel pointed out, this isn't 4chan so we can't all just do what we want, but it is /a for some reason that we'll probably never hear and even if we do it won't make any sense.
