Interesting thread on behalf of Chunky. Just throwing my blob of incoherent thoughts out there.

I see habits as the brain optimizing routines that have been repeated to make them easier to work through. Just as in software, you try to identify the part of the software that is most frequently used, and optimize it accordingly to maximize overall performance.

Thought patterns can be habituals too. I've been noticing that there is a clear distinction between how people of different background conceptually approach the same subjects. People who grew up in the West tend to first think about possibilities "we can do this" "we can do that", whereas people in the West tend to first think about obstacles "we can not do this because..."

I would say that it comes down to how education and society is structured. The bulk of Asians grew up in an educational system that is ruled largely by fear. Fear that originates literally from teachers and parents threatening pupils 'if you do not study hard, you will [consequences]' and the consequences can range from the very short term like being spanked, to the very long term like end up with a bad job. This is also why I think Asians are much much more risk-averse than Westerners.

I cannot say much about Westerners' upbringing from a parenting perspective, but the few good Westerner friends I have all seem to have parents of much more open-mindedness and support than their Asian counterparts, which allows them to have a much more positive mind as they grow up.

Actually, I once chatted with a good friend whose fiancee is this gorgeous Japanese lady. He talked about his glorious encounters of various girls in America, only to find himself needing to use a completely different method to approach this Japanese lady. He said Western girls intrinsically have much higher confidence, especially the beautiful ones, so the basic strategy is to undermine their confidence to get their attention; however, this does not work for Asian girls, because they had little confidence to begin with. The thought process behind Asians is often 'oh I am not good enough', and hence the lack of confidence.

Well, it would make anyone mad really... it's a little too easy, no?

i dont get which parts are mad
it seems that you are, in fact mad in this situation
and ''being mad'' and ''editing posts to make me look incredibly mad'' doesn't really substitute
