you say "vi träffas" vs "vi träffades" so thats just her getting it wrong, although you cant really directly translate "catch up" without it sounding retarded. there are lots of other ones where we add words, although most of the time we combine words into long ones and funny shit happens when foreigners get it wrong, like:
brunhårig sjuksköterska = brown-haired nurse
brun hårig sjuk sköterska = sick brown hairy nurse

kulglass = icecream in a cone
kul glass = hilarious icecream
