almost all of the stuff you own at one point or another will have visited a sweatshop which had employed children at some point
maybe sell everything you own and make ur own clothes so u know 4 sure that ur not supporting the evil child labour industry

Your argument fails to explain why it's stupid for me not to purchase goods when I'm sure it's from a sweatshop etc as opposed to "all my shit" where I'm not really sure (and really doubt anything close to all of it has been through a sweat shop).

Morally speaking isn't it much worse to do something bad with knowingly (or woth some certainty) as opposed to unkowningly or inadvertently.

And no, I'm not some moral saint, I never said DO NOT BUY etc, was just pointing it out.

but soldat is right i mean this kind of "consumer activism" that you see these days is completely pointless. as long as you realise that it's just a sop to your conscience not to buy goods made in sweatshops then i have no problem with it, but don't expect it to change anything.

that's cool and interesting. i disagree though once he gets into Oscar Wilde and forward. he claims to agree he is misanthropic, but that's not the case. his position is overly optimistic - thinking that if we stop masking the problem with "cheap charity" people will see the situation for what it is and some great change will result. that's getting far too cute with morality, politics, and even just causation.
