France is easily the most xenophobic country in the whole of Europe at the moment, even going so far as to pass law on it (that was later shot down for being made by dickheads), maybe only surpassed by the Swiss.
Europe's as a whole tendency to become more and more xenophobic can be in part explained by the current economic situation, and in part that historically, you're just douchebags.

Quotas exist for a reason. If it wasn't for them, there would literally be no women in most developed world's workforces because employers would have no reason to employ them. After years of quotas forcing companies no choice but to employ them, and with possitive results, women find it easier (but aren't still in equal conditions compared to men) to get employment.

I heard that being a good employee is an excellent start to be employed instead of playing the race/gender/?? card and hoping the employer buys into multiculturalism. I'm not sure, but part of your post could easily be interpreted as "men are always better than women so why hire them at all", with which I would disagree, especially as there is the tendency of moving from manufacturing-based to service-based economy, in which women do not appear inferior at all. Maybe this was not your intent though.

A reservation for needing positive discrimination in favour of women imo btw would be the fact that they can get pregnant. That is where their protection should be guaranteed (and it usually is).

lol you have never been to austria or switzerland which are far far more xenophobic than france

and am not even speaking about far eastern lands like croatia

there is no "more" xenophobia than before atm, it's just that the so-called "extrem right" party was the only one to pledge against entering europe since the very beginning, europe which has been rejected by a referendum which was ignored by Sarkozy at that time. And they are the only one that want to come back to national money printing, and gold standard to back it up with that.

As the economic situation is worsening (real unemployment must be around 15% here) lots of people rally to that party but not for xenophobic reasons. Lots of people have also seen their jobs sent to poland or the czech to reduce costs and distribute more profits to the rich around, esp. in industry and IT. Happened to me 2 times already, so what I'm young found another job quickly but when you're 55 and lose your job to such a country because the firm that employs you made 10% more benefit than past year, but shareholders expected 15% ur fucked and bitter and think protactionalism is a solution, or at least worth trying.

Meanwhile the situation in suburbs has become tons better than it was 10 years ago, and a whole bunch of arabs are extremely well integrated and beloved from their neighbourhoods as far as I can see it, which is, everyday.

Only old ppl in lost villages that never saw a nigger are afraid u know.

Hmm meanwhile OWS (from which no word is heard about in European medias) seems to be taking off, at least it's not dying at all.

Guess they'll have to reopen FEMA camps to shut it down or it's gonna be a funny spring.

so fucking dumb
can you not see how this attitude leads to a self-perpetuating cycle of poverty?

we try and give preferential treatment on the basis of past wrongs
throughout history people have been discriminated against on the basis of gender for employment, race, whatever, and as a result of this, they were poorer and had less opportunities for it

while minorities today may not themselves have been victims of this discrimination, the effects are still there because they, collectively, as a community, have not benefited historically from the same benefits as white males

preferential treatment policies also help psychologically by providing role models to younger generations
while you may be going PSHAWW BOOTSTRAPS in your head right now, this is literally scientific fact

take a look at this article

Hi Nexus I skimmed the article.

"A third of local government must be girls", sure why not. I hope you noticed though that the article is about public offices, which arguably are something that the gvt should indeed regulate. I'm not sure about the necessity (but like the role model idea that is brought out tbh, and hey more girls going to secondary school, again - sure why not) - after all it's not "men electing men" but "both genders electing whomever they want".

But how about "40% of the members on the board of any public company must be girls" (this is the tendency in the EU atm)? Is this where some government should impose quotas at all?

no dickhead, there are also other benefits as well across the board
Quote:

The researchers surveyed families in 495 villages with children ages 11 to 15, collecting the data in 2007. In villages that had never had female leaders, they found, both parents and adolescents maintained a large gender gap in terms of their expectations for children: For instance, parents were 45 percent less likely to state that they wanted their girls to graduate from school or study beyond the secondary-school level, in comparison to the parents’ aspirations for boys. Adolescents themselves who had never been around female pradhan had a slightly smaller gender gap, of 32 percent.

However, among adolescents whose villages had had female pradhan serving two terms, the gender gap concerning educational goals was completely erased. That change stemmed entirely from raised aspirations on the part of the girls; the boys’ level of expected schooling remained constant. Among parents in these villages, the gender gap in aspiration closed by 25 percent.

Quote:
Moreover, having female pradhan creates some other changes in the daily lives of girls. In villages that have never had female leaders, girls typically spend 79 more minutes per day than boys do in dealing with domestic chores. In villages where women have been the pradhan for two terms, that disparity shrinks by 18 minutes.

if you can't even read a very simple article and readjust your (flawed) belief that preferential treatment to previously suppressed/mistreated minorities is pointless, then it's pointless to go further
